Nikhef
A powerful visualisation of hardcore physics
Relaunching an institute
We produced a captivating short film to spark renewed excitement around the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics. Marking the official reopening of Nikhef’s newly improved Amsterdam headquarters, the purpose of this video was to provide viewers and visitors with a fresh impression of a long-established organisation and the intriguing field in which it operates.
“Apart from the creative input, we were impressed by the systematic and efficient approach of our idea’s we had in mind for the spectacular opening of our institute. Sensu’s project management was essential as we had very little time to produce the video.”

Explosive teaser that grabs attention
With a history that stretches all the way back to the 1940s, Nikhef is a esteemed institute with a reputation that speaks for itself. What our collaboration brought to the table was a means to reinvigorate this stature: a depiction of Nikhef that is capable of generating interest from a wider online audience, and lighting a fire within the scientists of the future.
Adding spectacle to a live event
More than ‘just’ a video, we created an audiovisual experience that served as a relaunching campaign surrounding a milestone event. As Nikhef's reborn main building in Amsterdam Science Park first opened its doors to the public following extensive renovations, it was our film that formed the backdrop – setting the tone for a new era for the institute.

Circular visual concept
But how to capture the raw mystique of the subatomic realm? Nikhef's research delves into the elementary building blocks of our universe, unravelling the very structure of space and time. Through a circular theme that recurs throughout the video, we invite viewers to open their eyes to these wonders of our world – from the microcosm of atoms and subatomic particles to the macrocosm of planets and galaxies.
Questions for our future
Through studying the mind-bogglingly small, the scientists at Nikhef are tackling some of the biggest physics questions of our time. The answers they provide are of wider importance to humanity, and to the development of novel technologies needed to realise change in these times of transition.
