Junglekeepers
Triggering financial impact for an NGO
Amplifying nature’s cry for help
The call to save the rainforest doesn’t often fall on deaf ears. Most of us have a basic understanding of the global climatic importance of these uncultivated natural domains, as well as a feel for the inherent value of the sea of hidden wildlife they harbour. But how to get people emotionally and financially involved with a specific conservation effort, taking place in the obscure outback of south-eastern Peru?
Through the film "Crucial Time," NGO Junglekeepers successfully raises $3.5 million for the conservation of Madre de Dios, known as the 'Peruvian Capital of Biodiversity’.

A vital conservation effort
Junglekeepers is an on-the-ground initiative working to protect a crucial corridor of the Amazon in the face of human activities such as logging, mining, and burning. Our creative director Jesper Buijvoets personally travelled into the rainforest together with collaborator Aagje van Meerwijk, to capture what makes the area so special. The resulting video gave a face to this inspired organisation by allowing one of its heroes to tell their story.
Donations and nominations
The short documentary, which was given the name Crucial Time, was to become a real success. It reached the eyes of a large audience, triggering a wave of interest in Junglekeepers and donations in support of their indispensable conservation work. It also garnered recognition from multiple film festivals related to the natural world and sustainability.

Working in the wilderness
A shoot in the deepest Peruvian rainforest is not something we do every day. Surviving the jungle is a challenge in itself, let alone doing so in the company of gear that needs to be kept dry and intact. But these and other logistical challenges actually became part of the fun, making the act of capturing the sheer beauty of these natural surroundings all the more rewarding.
Returning guests in the heart of the Amazon
It all began as a passion project of Sensu.green co-founder Jesper Buijvoets and his partner, biologist Aagje van Meerwijk. After reading about the Madre de Dios region, the thought of making a documentary there simply wouldn’t leave them alone. The success of the Junglekeepers video inspired further trips from the Netherlands to South America, resulting in the two-part documentary Dark Green and a long-term relationship with Paul Rosolie and his gang of changemakers.
